Natural Breast Augmentation

shutterstock_188061365Natural breast augmentation is a newer procedure similar to the Brazilian Butt Lift where fat is removed from one area of the body and transferred to the breasts. This provides increased volume to the breast and allows more shaping to be performed than a traditional breast augmentation. However, this technique is best applied to patients who are opting for a relatively small augmentation. It is difficult to get much larger than a 200 or 300 cc augmentation (one or two cup size increase). Much larger than that a traditional implant is going to provide a much more stable and reproducible result. With the choices in implants today your shape can be tailored to meet your needs. Where I truly appreciate this technique is when used in conjunction with a breast lift. Many patients who require a breast lift have lost volume in the upper portion of the breast and fat grafting this area really helps to improve the final shape.

The procedure entails selection areas from the body where fat can be removed using traditional liposuction techniques. The average person will need to have fat removed from 2-3 areas of the body in order to have enough fat available for the transfer. Once enough fat has been collected, it is processed through a special canister which helps pull out all the excess fluid and broken fat cells from the mixture. The remainder is then inserted using small, blunt cannula which look similar to the liposuction cannula but much smaller.

The typical patient will find that the areas where liposuction has been performed are the sorest and depending upon the amount removed should anticipate about 3-5 days of discomfort and about the same amount of time to take off from work. A compression garment will need to be worn just as in traditional liposuction.

The breast itself will be somewhat swollen and over corrected. On average about 50% of the injected fat will be reabsorbed. Therefore, more than necessary is injected at the time of surgery to compensate for this loss. In about 3-4 weeks the breasts will lose much of this excess fullness.
